I have a friend that just moved to Oregon from Ohio. He’s starting up a computer help business from scratch and as I talked to him about his new business, I immediately start to think about a marketing plan that would help his niche. These computer ideas are great for his computer niche, but any business wants to have their logo in a prominent spot, and so this computer-placed marketing advice can be for everyone. He visits clients at their business and fixes their technology woes. When he leaves, he gives them a bill for the work, gets his check, and hopes they call him the next time. Besides his business card, he doesn’t leave anything for them to remember him by—and that is a mistake. The space around a computer is PRIME logo visibility space. Any business wants to get a logo in such a visible place. If a logoed item can find its way on or near a computer, it will get lots of views—and all those views mean being remembered. For a computer technician, a well-placed logo could mean a phone call the next time there’s a computer problem to fix. My friend should leave a logoed computer accessory on or near the computer he just fixed. Imprinted Mouse Pad A mouse pad is a great place for logo visibility. If the computer my friend’s working on has a mouse pad that is in poor shape, he has a perfect opportunity to replace that pad with one of his own. Two pieces of advice that he should take: ask first (or at least don’t throw the old one away) and try out several samples of mouse pads so you choose the right pad. Some mouse pads are so slick that a rollerball mouse doesn’t work well—and the last impression a computer technician wants to leave is frustration from a poorly performing mouse. Mouse pads with a fabric surface work best. He should remember to include the company phone number—the fewer the steps the client needs to take to reach his company, the better. Imprinted Cyber Mirror A cyber mirror is a round mirror that attaches to a monitor. The mirror allows people typing at the computer to see behind them. The bottom edge of the cyber mirror has just enough space to imprint a company name and phone number. Placing a company logo at the corner of a monitor is excellent logo real estate. Just ask before you stick the mirror on. Imprinted Monitor Clip If an imprinted cyber mirror is too big, a smaller and cheaper promotion is the imprinted monitor clip. This clip is small, but it can be added to the monitor without necessarily asking permission. If the client doesn’t want the clip on her monitor, she can remove it. But the most likely scenario is that she’ll forget the clip is there until she needs a computer technician. And then the name and phone number will be right in front of her. Imprinted Keyboard Brush Keyboards get dirty and the gift of an imprinted keyboard brush would be appreciated and used. Imprinted Screen Sweep Monitors collect dust so an imprinted screen sweep would be a tool that would stay handy in a desk drawer. Any of these five promotional computer accessories would help my friend’s company be remembered and help his clients feel even more well-served.
